Makhan means butter in Hindi, and an Indian dish with the term makhan in it like makhani just means that the dish is made richer with butter and likely cream. My plant-based eaters, not to worry, there are so many alternatives to dairy these days that you can add your favorite non-dairy alternatives.
Just put them together and they will do the hard work for you. Our Tikka Masala is a rock star of a sauce - just follow the recipe below to take it (one of the few plant-based versions made cream with almonds) and ramp up the taste and flavor to make an all-time fave - Makhani, or Butter as in Butter Chicken sauce. Add grilled chicken, shrimp, fish, tofu, paneer, or vegetables like a delicious roasted cauliflower and you've got Indian on the table just about any night of the week.
