Super Bowl Snack Ideas
Masala french fries

Game day is almost here and of course you'll be thinking about the food. That's the first thing I think about! But just because it's traditional to load up on your snacking for the game, doesn't mean you need to.

As I continue to navigate the world of holidays and events, I realize that my healthy lifestyle goals need to navigate these 'special' days as well. I need to truly take them into consideration and plan around them because no matter the week there is a special day, a special occasion, and a special reason to eat more and eat things that just don't make me feel so great.

The way I'm planning to navigate game day is to have my action plan in place. I'll eat a good, protein-rich breakfast and lunch (probably a big bowl of bean soup). And then I'll have some delicious and healthy options for snacking and dinner available as well. My first suggestion is to use spices instead of butter and other fats in your cooking. The recipe card above is an example of how you can even spice up pre-purchased frozen items. Serve them with our Tamarind Chutney for easy gourmet on your table.  And when you do stack all the good stuff in your diet, you can absolutely splurge a little and you'll be just fine. Most likely, you'll truly love and enjoy that splurge moment as well.

If you want to make your fries at home, give them a bake. Just soaking them in cold water for 30 minutes and then sprinkling them with a spice blend can give you delicious, crispy fries without the extra calories. Check out my recipe by clicking here

Or perhaps you want a recipe for a really good chili? Try this recipe out from our friends at Hortiport. They use our Indian As Apple Pie moong dal and the products of several of their vendors in this recipe. Click here for it and save it to make it well after game day.

Need an easy dessert that won't leave you feeling guilty? Give my dairy-free silken tofu peanut butter cups a try. Click here for the recipe.

Folks, there is always a reason to eat those extra calories. Take it from me - it's not really worth it if they don't make you feel good the next day. If they do - go for it. I know that I never do - so this year, I'm looking to keep it light no matter the occasion and no matter the game. Now if the Eagles were playing and winning, well that may be another story!
