Our #spiceoftheweek is #chaatmasala, and as I racked my brain to come up with more uses of our most amazing spice blend, these peppers came to mind. They are at one easy to prep - look beautiful on a plate, and are absolutely addictive. Here, I have used long peppers, which are all over markets at the moment. They are generally sweet, but if you don't mind extra heat, try this in a spicier pepper. Just make sure you tell your guests which is which!
Slice your peppers lengthwise (I used about a dozen) and clean out the inside carefully with a paring knife. I like leaving the stem on for easier handling. Fill them with the following spice blend. Use a pinch, or a little more, whatever you're up for.
Spice Blend
1 tablespoon plus one teaspoon Chaat Masala
2 teaspoons light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon red chile pepper or cayenne
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Sprinkle into your peppers halves, drizzle with oil (grapeseed, coconut, or canola) and grill outdoors or on the stovetop. Cook only on the one side, with the open side up, and cook for about 5 - 8 minutes until they are slightly charred.
Learn more about what Chaat Masala is and how to use it paired with okra in this blog post. The spice combo is similar, but with the okra I add a little turmeric and dried mango powder (if you have it).
